Re: Pay for Content? Ha, Say Users
I agree that some people are willing to may, and
in fact "PAY MORE" than we expected for content.
But I think the point of the article is that MOST people
are not willing to pay. I think this is consistent with
what these others report.
Yes - you can absolutely make money selling online,
selling information, subscriptions, etc... But how many
visitors to your site does it take to convert? 50?
100? 200? 500? Depends what you are selling. But
of those 99% walking away, some just didn't like your
offer, and others think content should be free and would
not pay anyone.
So again - I agree there are people out there willing to
pay for information - I'm one of them. But there are others
out there that will not - after all, the Internet "is free",
right? And with that in mind, the article should point us in
the direction of asking a few questions:
1. Why won't 90% (or whatever) of surfers pay for content
(and "surfers" may be a key point),
2. How do we get them to see the value in content /
information and get them to pay, and
3. How do we identify those who will pay and make the offer
more attractive to them and overall more profitable to us?
