Re: Maximizing website traffic?

That situation is actually very common, and is a
dilemma that more companies face then they would
like to admit.

1. By requiring a subscription to view and download
the tutorial the company can gather the necessary
information to target the *real* customers. The
subscription form should have a section that entices
students to identify themselves. Whether it be a
discount, more detailed information, or any incentive
that may push a students buttons (further research
would have to be done to be more specific) most
students will identify themselves as such.

2. Email Marketing or Targeted Ad Buying would be the
two solutions that would allow the company to target
the ideal audience. Maybe a few email marketing lists
that are made up of IT professionals based on the sounds
of the Hi-Tech products offered, or Banners on sites
that get traffic from the target demographic.

3. Once again, introducing subscriptions would allow the
company to keep their loyal visitors and turn those
visitors that are really interested in getting information
about the product (versus those that are trying to get a
passing grade on some project) into future customers. Send
them updates on the products, free mouse pads, free
T-shirts, or anything else that keeps the products name in
their minds.

The key to the whole equation is building relationships. If
there is that much traffic coming to the site, it is a
perfect opportunity to build a brand. It would be easier if
the mystery product was revealed, but based on the info
provided that is what I would do.
