Hi Neville,

These are great questions. I would do one of the following
to identify the real and potential customers.

1) Ask users implicitly to identify themselves by changing
the primary navigation on the site. Possibly offering
different navigational elements to audience segments
depending on how you would like to guide them through the
site to reach your desired actions.

2) Explicitly ask users to identify themselves when they
request downloading the tutorials. This has become an
accepted practice because you are giving something in
return for information. Again you can use the results of
this identification process to guide the users towards
your desired actions.
