I'm not sure if I agree with this ... Yes, usability
and applying established conventions to your site GUI
and design are important, but Flash is not the root
of all bad site design. I believe that the brands
that you mentioned below do not utilized Flash because
of reach and audience more so than Flash labeled as a
platform for poor usability. After all, these companies
provide services and or offer products to a wide
variety of customer demographics. Optimal reach is key
to building customer relationship.

When in the hands of a capable expert or team, and with
an appropriate audience, Flash can add value to your
content - there's no doubt. Not all Flash has to be a
long-winded splashpage ... In a sea of millions
of sites, and Flash available to just about anyone, you
can expect a lot of bad examples of Flash ... You can
expect a lot of bad examples of plain old HTML, jpgs and
gifs. Has all site design evolved into "good"?

I'm not sure where you are getting some of your facts
from. They sound much like opinion or generalizations.
What has your audience communicated about what they want
to see?
