Re: PR is better for branding than advertising?

To me, this debate seems a bit silly. Is PR or advertising
better for branding probably depends on a specific product,
service and/or context. It seems ridiculous to make broad
generalizations based on very limited empirical data. I
agree with those who disagree that advertising effects
can't be measured...of course they can. You need to know
how to measure and test correctly and there are many
research firms who know how to do this. Let's not forget
that the primary purpose of articles by people like Ries
and others is to sell books, and you can sell more books by
making wild and contrary claims, even if they have nothing
to do with reality.
