The people who signed up for your mailing list opted-in
to *your* list which was under *your* control. If you
sell the website and list it is up to the new owner to
get new confirmations for their list. In some
circumstances it is acceptable to send a message to the
list while it is still under your control explaining the
situation and allowing people to opt in to the new
list but if they don't respond then they shouldn't
receive any more messages from the new owner.
