Very interesting topic. To those interested, in Canada
(Ontario) highspeed is provided by two firms (Bell and
Rogers). Bell gives you the choice of HighSpeed phone
line, and Rogers_at_Cable gives you high speed cable. The
second one seems faster.
Because of high maintenance the two firms have agreed
to charge higher fees. What they will be doing is:
Bell Sympatico
will charge for how much MB you actually are downloading
Rogers Cable
will charge for how much MB you actually are downloading
Why?
Well there seems to be two types of consumers. Those who
just get their email, and those who surf alot.
Those who just get their email will be paying a monthly
fee (same as before), but those who surf alot, watch
streaming media (online TV, etc...) will be paying for
the actual download.
SO, will more internet startups go down (inlcuding online
TV providers, Advertising Rich media)... I think so...
What do you think ? Opinions ?
By the way the firms are introducing this becuase of
the variety of problems with both firms providing
high speed. Cable/Phone seem to be down quite alot (or
slow) or not working at all. Customer Service replies
after 20min - 2hr on the phone, because of so much
complaints, service, etc... This causes a high
maintenance for both firms. I also heard that they
want to stop completely providing highspeed service,
because its not worth it... are we going to back in
time or what ?
