You're dead on about the spam cops. I used to work
for a major email marketing company that got block and
subsequently sued MAPS in 2000. Historically MAPS has
been the worst but I think they're running out of
money and consequently bite.

But now I'm on the 'buy side' and I gotta' tell you,
it's truly ugly. People swapping data, buying names
for under 2 cents. Every joker has 50M names. Even
when you do all your diligence, it's easy to get
burned. Something's gotta' give legislative or
otherwise. Shame is that all the major vendors had a
chance to develop standards in 2000 but didn't because
of in-fighting. Now, email is truly the wild, wild west.
