Anyone know about bolt-on carts?

I have to set up a bolt-on shopping cart for a small
startup website. (Maybe a couple dozen SKUs and really
straightforward setup) Having never actually worked
with any of these companies before, I am wondering if
anyone has any "do's and don'ts" about this.
Recommendations of specific companies are fine, but I
would rather get advice on features and pitfalls I
should look for when choosing an online cart.

PS.- If you work for a company offering these
services, please don_t bother sending me a direct
email. As a rule, I never purchase services from
unsolicited email. If anyone wants to send me tips or
advice, however, that_s fine.
