If you absolutely must have a valid e-mailaddress (imho it's
a reasonable fee for free software, even if it's a time
limited trial version) here's one way to do it.

"Lock" the software and e-mail the key to unlock it. That can
be done fairly simple.

+ You will get addresses (that at least at this particular
time are valid)
+ You can (if you code it that way) get stats one step
further.. i.e how many download, how many unlock etc

- You will still get crappy e-mailaddresses since people will
use hotmail/yahoo and other trash accounts
- You will probably scare away some people since it's an extra
step to complete
