One of the biggest limitations of indexing db driven dynamic pages with
search engines is to do with what do you put in the meta tags. You have to
either keep them generic or produce these meta tags again dynamically from
db. Of course the latter would introduce more complexity to the programming
of these pages.

Redirection is essential (already mentioned in another response). For a
client of mine, we have done this db driven. It is a simple mapping of old
pages to new pages. When the server cannot locate the requested page, we
look at the mapping and redirect the user to the new page. If the page still
cannot be found, we take them to a generic page which has a very well
written copy and site index.
