osCommerce (formerly The Exchange Project) is a pretty popular shopping cart
program with a nice feature list. It's written in PHP with a MySQL database
backend, which means it can run on *nix and Windows servers. And it's free,
open source software which is actively being improved upon. I have no
affiliation with it, other than I've used it in the past and I'm integrating
it into a couple of active development projects.
