In recent issue of FrankelTips, I referenced my own experience with
paid search engines, which don't work for me (they might for you). I
don't pay anything to serach engines because I've never been able to
generate the ROI. Without going into a long treatise, here are the
results of a search on "branding" without paying anyone, just good
SEO:

Yahoo: Top rank. Numero Uno. Top of the heap.
Google: Fifth from the top.
AOL: Sixth from the top.
Overture: Number 29. Which means I'm in the top 30 on a pay to play
search engine without ever having paid a penny for it.
