Was wondering, would that affect open rate?
Cos if I was using the primitive method of tracking open rate through a 1x1
gif, then would the gif load once in the message preview pane and another
time when the message is actually read? That would result in multiple
counting right?
Technically since most email softwares ride on Internet Explorer for their
HTML functionality, the 1x1 gif would have been cached and it wouldn't
request a second copy from the server. But would subsequent HTTP requests
be logged as a hit??
I had used a 1x1 gif for one of my previous email newsletters and the 1x1
gif was accessed some 7 times the size of the subscriber base. Even taking
into account any double counting, that was a large figure. I suspected it
was largely due to pass along as the newsletter actively encouraged
subscribers to forward to co-workers.
Anyone has insight on this? ; P
