Inge,

Why do you want search engine submission software? What do you intend to
accomplish with it?

Are you aware that three of the top 5 search engines use search results from
Google? The other two draw from Inktomi, which only accepts autosubmissions
(paid) via PositionPro, and from Tema/AskJeeves. None of the rest of the
universe of search engines has even 10% of reach.

Google (the kingpin) wants you to submit by hand. I've heard reports that
auto-submitting actually hurts your position with them. Also, if your site
content changes, Google keeps coming back. We see Googlebot on our sites
(MarketingSherpa.com, Sherpastore.com, EmailSherpa.com, etc.) every single
day. Ditto Inktomi (where we have never paid for inclusion). We have never
resubmitted to Google. Google doesn't want you to resubmit on any kind of
regular schedule; they want to determine how often to visit based on
frequency of content update.

Also, unless the search engine charges by the page for inclusion, they don't
usually want you to submit every page -- just the home page.

I can see that submitting to industry-specific or country-specific
directories would be something that would be facilitated by an automated
tool, but most directory submissions require you to enter a description (of
indeterminate length), and many require you to pay for inclusion.

I know autosubmission used to be much more accepted and even welcome by the
SEs, but it seems to me that those days are gone. Am I missing something
here?

Regards,
Alexis
