I agree Jonas, that pop-up ads should not be banned. That is un-American. I
just think the people who do them should be shot... only kidding :-)

With 32 years in Advertising and Ad Agency owner for over 20, I will say,
since you really provoked me with this one, is that pop-up ads are TOTALLY
ANNOYING.

Pop-ups are junk mail thrown in your face. They waste my time.

I personally form a negative opinion of all advertisers who use them. And
since I love advertising (you have to in order to survive 32 years in this
business - and still be physically alive as well), then I am not the type to
be predisposed against it in the first place.

Maybe you can get some response on certain items - you would anyway
depending on the product. But for the majority of advertisers who want
growth and image building and positive customer response, I would never
recommend the medium.

Pop-up ads will survive and the makers of the software to eliminate them
will flourish. Personally, I will click them off before I see them, as
always, so I do not have more negative feelings to harbor against products
and companies who no longer look at the big picture, nor utilize common
sense in promoting and selling their products and overall run terrible
advertising.

There are so many other ways to promote products in a positive manner that
if we all ignore popups, maybe they will just disappear!

PS - When you separate format from execution in advertising, you have an
attempt to communicate that does not work - a failure. Period. In fact I
would not even call something like that advertising. It demeans the word...
