Re: Future of online advertising
Hello, Ryan!
I work with the Internet and part of my job is to browse different sites in
search of information I need. So here are some of my observations about the
things in the world of online advertising which I found new for me as I was
exploring the Net.
1. I call it "Smart banners". They appeared quite recently and they have
great chances to replace those old gifs. I mean here Flash banners. When you
draw your mouse over them they interact with you. Either ask you to shoot at
the aim or drive a motorcycle. Menu-like information appearing at you wish
is also common. Even Yahoo has a small interacting Flash banner. "Powered by
blah, blah, blah".
2. Once I was surfing when I received an ICQ message from a stranger:
"Hello!". I checked out on the user details. It was young woman from Spain
with some sexy nick. Well, I said: "Hi!". Her next message was "Would you
like to see my home site? It's www.<blah,blah,blah>.com" Why not? Turned out
to be a dating service... You see, it was AUTOMATED!!! Some smart program
looks for eligible males and sends them such messages. And it waits for my
answer! I don't know how to call this new method of "advertising". But it's
definitely smart and aggressive.
3. I was looking for "photos of flowers" with yahoo search engine when all
of a sudden my page was blooming with flowers. Banners of beautiful flowers
were up at the top and to the right. "Dang,-I thought,-that's what I call
TARGETING!" I wonder how many other reserved words does Yahoo has. But it
might be not that new. I might just as well have looked before for some not
so popular things.
I hope that helps a little, 'cos new advertising methods are invented every
day and only the most aggressive (though legal) and effective have the right
to survive.
Thanks,
