Well, it *is* their property. AOL can do whatever they want with it,
can't they? However, it doesn't mean their pop-up ads will be any less
annoying than the pop-ups they are banning.
The original poster said she didn't want to stir up the pop up debate
again. No need to worry. There's no debate. I said pop-ups were annoying
when they first started showing up, and time and experience has shown
that users feel the same way. Why marketers insist on using them is
absolutely beyond me.
There's this weird mentality that seems to direct folks into thinking
that the Web is somehow like TV. It isn't. Computer users aren't
passive. They want to be engaged. Until advertisers find a way to make
advertising engaging, without getting in the face of users, online
advertising will remain as derelict and unprofitable as it currently is.
