Re: Unethical advertising practice
Good morning people,
Alana's note made me want to toss in another 2 cents on this.
As far as my understanding of the US Trademark Dilution act, this is not
an infringement on any mark. They aren't misleading your customers, they
aren't selling a product that has the same protected name. As far as my
knowledge goes, the legal issue is a moot point.
Ethics, which was Alana's note...
Ethics is the social contract that keeps us from killing our partners to
increase profits, however... it is not something that is in place to
preclude all competition. There are companies that specialize in placing
your advertisements over a competitor's website. It's competition, if
there was no competition, our country would be a much different place.
Competition drives companies to make better and more cost effective
goods /services. In my opinion, anyone who spends much more than 3 or 4
minutes worrying about who is advertising on 'their' name on overture,
well... you are wasting time that could be better used improving your
product, or your sales pitch, or your customer service.
Ethics is what keeps us polite, but competition is warfare.
**This message brought to you by the good folks at Starbucks. Caffeine,
it's what drives you.**
