Does Altavista adjust results?

I like to participate in the list and I think that it's very useful
resource.

I have had a curious experience with Altavista, and I hope you'll like
it.

Our company is a software development offshore team and we started to
position ourselves as Microsoft .NET development company. Hence, I have
to correct our site, title, keywords and so on. We'd like our potential
customers to be able to find us "Microsoft .NET *" words. I've spent
some time reading different advices and articles on how to optimize our
site. As the result of my work once I found our site on the second place
in Altavista on "Microsoft .NET" - word, higher then Microsoft Passport
page! I was really exited. I kept the page as proof of my victory :)
But in 30 minutes our site was moved to the second page of search
results.

Does it mean that Altavista checks its results and adjusts them?

And I hope that my experience could help other beginners at fighting
with search engines to believe that not everything in this fight depends
on their efforts.

Best regards,
Julia.
