I've found the email tools built into the Appies Web Host to be excellent.
See http://portal.hostingfreaks.com -- I am a rep, so I'll say that up
front, but I had occasion to use their Contact
manager in a sales campaign we did together last summer and it worked very
well. It utilizes a MySQL database. You pre-write your own custom emails,
and the To: and From: and all is filled in at the time the emails are sent,
not to metion all the details (date sent, name of email sent etc.) are added
to the prospect's record, and you can set them up for a followup email right
there. You can make your own email groups. You could also use the tool for a
sales team because each lead gets associated with a rep, so the rep can
search on all his leads (while others cannot) and the manager can see the
big picture by searching on every rep. There are a lot of ways to search on
a lead list too, making it really useful.
Plus your email tools are built right into your Web Site Manager (control
panel).
If you wanted you could run a pretty good marketing web site here because
they've built a lot of tools into their server that make it easy to create a
pop-under campaign, a banner-ad rotating campaign, a listserv...
forum/guestbook/ecommerce built in too, so if you're not a Web developer
guru you can still get a lot of usable tools to help grow your business.
