I couldn't agree more.

However, I do think that it would be a good idea to verify the domain's
existence in the whois database when a user fills in an email. Or
perhaps an email verification procedure if you attach much value to
email addresses (perhaps when signing up, you fill in your email
address, an email is sent to the email address containing further
instructions) .

Just be creative, but keep in mind, a LOT of the email addresses that
are used are from businesses. If the company sells B2B software for
example, don't even think about how many of the email addresses used in
such a case are from businesses compared to the ones from ISP's...
