Your take on the new IAB Standards

Hello everyone, my name is Brian Loudenslager and I'm about 1 year into the
online advertising industry currently as more of a hobby and hopefully a
fulltime career move at some point. I'm currently an fulltime I/T
consultant/project manager working at a large I/T services/hardware/software
company. However on this list I will be representing LC Metis a small online
start up offering advertising media services. Moving on....

Yesterday the IAB announced the Universal Ad Package (300x250, 180x150,
160x600, 728x90) . I certainly think an industry standard is needed, however
I was surprised they removed the 468x60. I wanted to get some of your
thought's about the standard and specifically the removal of the 468x60.

I agree that web surfers have become very immune to the 468x60 but with the
introduction of flash and rich media these ad's have improved. The question
is will the 468x60 really be phased out? Especially in the small mom-pop
site's that would have to endure layout redesigns.

We are currently writing ad serving software complying to the old IAB
standards, should we comply to the new standards? At first thought, I don't
think we will remove the format of 468x60, too many business already have
these ad's designed and templates. It would be my opinion it would hurt
usefulness of the software.

I'm curious to what some of you industry veterans have to say on this
subject, some of you may have even been on the committee.

Regards,
Brian Loudenslager
