Re: Your take on the new IAB Standards

Many of these "standards comittees" are, in my opinion, a way of
creating employment for people who otherwise would not be. The 468 x 60
format has worked well, and throwing it out makes about as much sense as
replacing the yard with a unit of measurement 1.72 times its size. I worked
for a computer hardware manufacturer, and part of the ISO-9000 certification
was to un-pack every tenth already-packaged and boxed computer shipped,
re-assemble it, plug it in, and make sure it worked.
Standards have their place, and are desirable up to a point, but
beyond a certain point they become cumbersome and make-work procedures that
just get in people's way.
On the site we operate, a search engine which brings back banner ads
for search results, 468 x 60
banners are the standard dimension used because they are suited to
horizontally-stacked search engine results, and don't take up too much
bandwidth and time to load.
