I agree and disagree with your statement. To sum it up:

I agree, but only for branding. What you see with off-line ads, is often
a weird commercial that makes no sense, and then a name. Or all the coca
cola advertisements at the corner of the streets.

However, there is definitely something that online advertising can do
what off-line advertising can't do: tracking. With online advertising,
as all of you might know, you can completely track the activity of the
users. When advertising on a newspaper, you don't know exactly how many
or when the readers are going to respond.

Also, another big advantage of advertising a website with online
advertising is that you are 100% sure your reader/viewer had access to
the internet.

Just my $0.02 worth on this issue.
