Hi,
Here are my two cents.
We have been using Clicktracks for a while now. With the launch of the
latest version (3.1) the product has reached a level of maturity that makes
this tool very effective in evaluating user behavior on our website. What
used to take us hours or days to evaluate now takes us minutes. And it makes
pretty reports as a bonus.
Our web team uses it to point out problem areas in regards to the user
experience and usability. Because the reporting uses the actual web page by
putting percentages on top of links, it's easy to see where users are going
on a particular page. So all we have to do is take a screenshot of the page
and put it in our report. Very effective to convince management to approve
changes to the site. You can "tag" certain user groups to see if their
behavior is different from other groups.
After changes are made, it's also effective to evaluate design changes we
have made to the site with ClickTracks. We can measure the effect of
changing the title of a link almost immediately for example. We also use it
to evaluate a/b tests to see what approach works best.
ClickTracks isn't the silver bullet in web tracking and we use in
combination in combination with other software tools (like Analog) and
research methods (usability tests, heuristic evaluation, surveys, etc.). But
what it is designed to do, it does really well. I hope they'll keep their
focus on that. It's been worth every penny for us and I already can't
imagine life without it.
