Re: Radio advertising costs
Natalie,
Regarding radio advertising rates...SRDS (Standard Rate and Data Service)
makes the most comprehensive advertising planners. Unfortunately, they
charge too much for them--i.e., the Radio planner is about $500 for an
annual subscription to the quarterly planner and the associated website.
However, they have started charging for single-month subscriptions or
access to their website on some of their directories (at least, they've
been contacting me about that over the last year), so you might be able to
get access to the data for less $$, if you call them and talk to a rep.
Check out http://www.srds.com, and click on Subscription and Product
Information.
There's also someone offering a "used" SRDS radio planner (Spring 2002) for
$45 at http://www.aliensonearth.com/catalog/detail/0917/0917B150935.html);
I imagine that SRDS frowns on this kind of reselling of their directories.
There's also something called a Thumbnail Media Planner
(http://www.thumbnailmediaplanner.com) that lists the major markets, and is
$75 a copy. But it probably only lists some of the stations, whereas SRDS
is the media planner's bible, and lists (almost) all of them.
A helpful site that compares different kinds of advertising and normal
rates for each medium can be found at
http://www.freewayadvertising.com/pages/advertising_rates.html.
Also, here's a site that shows a lists of directories:
http://library.uww.edu/GUIDES/media.htm#radio. Other media is also covered
at http://library.uww.edu/GUIDES/media.htm
A similar site: http://www.ithica.edu/library/biblio/mediasc.html#radio
This should be enough to keep you busy for a while. :-) Good luck.
Kristin
