             I had been using the free version of Hitbox, which is likely
similar to the professional one. It does not actually display a counter
graphic on your website, so if you want to see your stats and visitors, you
must log on to the Hitbox website (websidestory.com) with your logon ID,
which is not stored. It is somewhat of a hassle to do this each time, rather
than visiting your own site and seeing your stats. Also, although Hitbox is
making a good effort to deliver good analytical reports, I find their report
results somewhat confusing and ambiguous. There is over-emphasis in areas
that do not need emphasis, and a lack of information in areas that you want
information.


            I switched back to another tracking service, free of charge,
offered by www.bravenet.com .
            You simply register and logon, select hit tracking as a
service, then cut and paste the html into your site.

            It is straightforward and uncomplicated, and it gives you the
information you need - how many vistors, what URL's they come from each time
they visit, and also what keywords they are using if they came from search
engines.
There is a Javascript portion to the HTML that you paste - this is also true
with Hitbox. The Bravenet code appears less complicated, and I delete the
<noscript> ...</noscript> part on my page because virtually every browser
in existence,
both Netscape and Explorer, already speaks Javascript, so the </noscript>
section is not needed.
