Re: Is Google deleting sites that use pop-ups?
This is indeed a worrying development. But as pointed out yesterday, many
commercial websites that are common brand names accept popups/unders and are
inevitable from any directory listing, including google.
On a different note, popups, as a frequently used format are indeed
declining in popularity when it comes to advertising. As the largest buyers
of online media in the Irish market, we've always felt that value lies in
carefully placing other in-page formats, rather than irritating customers
with popups, even when frequency capped.
An immediate response to a _call to action_, which the popups aided, have
come down to less than a quarter of the overall responses for any campaign.
So, combined with the publishers_ growing reluctance to accept popups and
the agencies_ experiences, pop ups could soon become obsolete.
