Well, this should be no great secret, but a substantial amount of
traffic on all of our client sites comes from inbound links from other
sites. I'm not sure of what the official norm is on this, but we
typically find that the top three or four referring sites come in right
after the top three or four search engines/directories.

The wacky part is - the top referrers have often turned out NOT to be
the ones we expected. So my best advice to you would be to really put
some time into finding out where would be good sites to have inbound
links from and go after them. In the process, you'll also improve your
natural rankings.
