John,

If you read my post again, you'll note the question about storyboarding
the brand idea was a rhetorical one. I question the misleading notion
that advertising and PR are somehow separate from the branding process.
They are a part of it, and integral ones at that.

I don't think thinking/storyboarding of an idea is branding. Branding,
the successful type that is, is all in the execution, and advertising
and PR (as well as the handling of a bunch of other physical as well
intangible touchpoints with a customer) are definitely within the gamut
of branding.

Even a golf tournament that Accenture or Toshiba organize will help
towards the creation of their brand's personality.
