Rob's comment about the mails he sends out not getting reported adds an
interesting element to this debate.
I get junk mail. I get 60 - 150 UCE per day. I use Cloudmarks spam blocker
(Very effective for end users, and totally free! visit www.cloudmark.com)
and this protects me from a lot of it.
I received one of Rob Frankels mails. Technically it was UCE - I didn't ask
for it, I didn't give him my e-Mail address, and I wasn't interested in the
service (That's a bit harsh - sorry Rob, wasn't interested at the time I got
the mail!). Did I report it? No. It was clearly targeted at me based on
interests I have shown. In fact I still have the e-Mail tucked away in a
folder for future reference.
I get e-Mails offering me breast enhancement products. Whilst I believe I am
in touch with my feminine side, my masculinity has enough control to prevent
me from wanting this. Anyone who had done any research would have realized
that I am the wrong sex for this product. The list goes on - I don't need to
tell you how silly spam is - you all get the same ones I do.
So what is the fix? There is an answer. A perfect answer. A simple answer.
An answer that sadly will never happen.
Ignore them. Don't open them, and most importantly don't spend money with
them. If everyone did this it would not be worth sending the mail out.
If only! Back to programming those spam blockers.
