Jim's post was definitely a flame. My perception from reading the posts is
that is he is actually angry with her personally.

He could have directed his comments directly to the ideas. His choice was
to personalize it.

"Do you defend..." etc.

The tone of Melinda's reply although emotional was not combustible.

I would have left Jim in the deleted folder.
