I think Jim was quite right to comment on the crux of Melinda's arguement
which is that it is morally permissible to do 'anything' to feed your
chldren.

But I am not sure how many homeless spammers there are out there - and if
these are the same people that are offering to re-arrange our mortgages,
give us a cheap loan or offering us the chance to make millions on the
internet, I think we should be told.

I get the impression that for every hard-luck story such as Melinda's that
are a large number of spammers who do very nicely from clogging up the
internet with people's inboxes with unwanted crud. I also know of a number
of people who won't let THEIR kids have an e-mail account because of the
amount of unsolicited porn that floods in.

Yes, if my kids were hungry I might also develop the ethical standards of a
spammer. But spamming is WRONG. Jim is quite right to say that, and I am
sure that Melinda knows it too.
