Bounce rates

We have a website that we advertise using Goolgle's Adwords. Our words
are very targeted to our website. The key words Find a dentist, dentist
search, dental directory bring us 90% of our traffic (it's a dentist
directory). Our CTR is at or above 10% of impressions for those words.
Our ads are very specific also. They say "Looking for a new dentists in
your area? Search our database of over 130,000 dental websites" and
"Find a dentist by zip, city & state or last name. 130,000 dentists ".
Both titles say "USA Dental Directory".
We had just over 20,000 hits last month, but 14,500 clicked on our ad
and was on the site for less than one minute. Is this a normal bounce
rate?
I am trying to figure out how to decrease our bounce rate. One of the
things I am having done is putting the dentist search on the front page.
Is there any other ideas you may have to help decrease the bounce rate?
What techniques do you use to keep visitors on your site? How successful
are contests ( we are thinking of offering a contest to people who use
the search)? Do you think the ads are not specific enough?
We have cut off our PPC account with Google until we can find a way to
decrease our bounce rate, but being new at marketing I don't know where
to start.
