Re: Making money on banner ads

Doug;
When it comes to earning a PROFIT from the sale and distribution
of banner ads on a lightly trafficked website;
Unless you can charge a premium for a targeted audience
It will cost you or someone (your host) more to serve the ads than you'll
realize from the fee....of course this is factoring in administrative,
account maintenance, IT and bandwidth costs.

Doug, I reviewed your site. Very nice! You should be able to
monetize your traffic. One thing to keep in mind is that banner
ads have a very low conversion ratio, due to the fact that
people have developed "banner blindness." Small cleverly worded
PLAIN text ads convert much better. Think "Google!" You could
utilize all the white space on the left under your menu and have
alot more text ads that would appeal to a broad audience instead
of taking up the space with banner ads. I have a new client that
gets 1 million page views per day. I am helping him monetize his
traffic with a variety of affiliate programs and PopUNDER ads.

So I'll share a little about what I think would work well for
your site and what I assume your demographics are. Sign up with
Commission Junction where you will find affiliate programs
for everything under the sun. Find products and service that
would appeal to the masses. Auto financing and refi (Roadloans
pays $100 per loan),mortgage loans, anything to do with saving
money (coupon sites ,etc.) Mr Ink man converts pretty well.
Find high paying, easy converting programs that pay per lead
instead of sale, as well. Ubid is a good example of one that
pays per lead but saves people money too. Note: Some programs
pay better than others, some merchants don't pay for repeat
sales, others do, some have bad reputations,so without
knowing who's who, you may have to do a lot of trial and error
to find out exactly which ones will generate revenue for you.
Give me a call and I'll be happy to give you some pointers.

I don't want to write a book here, trying to explain all the
ins & outs. Here are a couple text ads I wrote for my client
just to give you an idea. Again, you would just make them fit
to fill up all the white space on the left.

Build a Website FREE TRIAL Rated #1 easiest, most features, try now!

Bidders Paradise Save up to 70% on Computers $ Electronics

The other revenue generation method I would utilize if I were you is
Pop UNDER advertising. Banner ads and PopUps annoy people. PopUnders
are full page ads that allow you to easily and discretely
generate additional revenue from your site by displaying popunder
advertising windows that are only displayed AFTER your visitor
has left your site. I have done a lot of research and the one
I use for my client is PayPopUp. The link will take you to the
publisher info page that tells you all about it. The reason I
like this one is because they pay for every impression (RAW)
instead of unique, so you can earn more. The way they pay is
equivalent to average $7.5 per 1,000 Unique visitors so it's
much higher than most. They also offer a lot of flexibility
in terms of frequency caps, delays and ad categories. It's
free to set up if you just want to try it.

If you want to try traditional banner advertising, some of the
top networks are FastClick, TribalFusion and Burst. However,
I believe you could earn more through affiliate programs (if
you have the time to learn the game) and PopUnders. If you
want to call me for some free advice my number is on my website.
