COUPONS!

Offer your customers something like a $5 discount if they mention coupon
code "XX" or "YY." Run XX on your television campaign and YY on your
magazine campaign. Create a coupon field for buying online that
automatically discounts the price, and let your customer service reps know
about these codes and give them a method for entering them on the back-end.
This is one of the most effective tracking methods, because every buyer
wants to save money, so they will make sure to use their coupon.

My company has been successfully using this for years.
