Re: DeepMetrix - Traffic Analysis Tool
I'm afraid it's not whether the software is
trustworthy or reliable or whether you spent
your money wisely - it's how different tools
use different data to make their calculations.
But it's not even that simple. In this industry
we have:
1. Different server software
2. Different metrics tracking technologies
3. Different definitions for the data and the metrics
4. Different processes for gathering the data
5. Different methods for cleansing the data
6. Different algorithms for analyzing the data
7. Different formats for displaying the information
8. Different perspectives on interpreting the information
Need I go on? Can you spell multivariate?
The short answer is that no two traffic analysis
tools will tell you the same thing. The long answer
is that one of them may be making false assumptions
about the traffic you're getting and may be way off
base in its reporting - some investigation may be
required.
The largest gathering of Web analytics vendors ever
will take place in June in Santa Barbara along with
the Emetrics Summit (see below) - maybe I can get
them to start moving towards some industry standards...
