Re: Emailing -measuring response
It does really depend on the audience. We have two email formats
available--one in the template of our website and one that is
plain text. Both are actually in HTML, and can take HTML
formatting in the body (IE bolding, underline, etc).
Before I got here, there was no HTML in the emails. Once I took
the job, I adding HTML. Just simple stuff-we bold the date/time
of the course, the name of the speaker, and the discount given
in that email. This has given us a much better response. In my
experience, the "plain text" (non-image intensive) emails work a
lot better than the ones that look like our webpage.
Occasionally in both formats we include a picture of the speaker.
In any event, on days when I am out, someone else sends these
emails. This person does not know/use HTML. The next day I get
5-10 emails in my box complaining: "USUALLY THE DATE/TIME IS IN
BOLD--IT TOOK ME 20 MINUTES TO FIND IT.." and so on.
I am not implying that this will work for every company--but in
our case minor HTML tags work great. Check our website if
you're interested in the business model and a little demographic
info for comparison to your company.
