Hi Simeon,
I visited your website and noticed that your average pages view per user
is 1.7 according to Alexa.com rankings. Which is extremely low to the
extent I started to doubt a technical problem preventing users from
browsing your page? Or I would think that Alexa.com has a problem in
ranking your site.
Anyway back to your question, one of the most successful ways to
increase the page views in content based website from my experience is
RELATED LINKS, which is to get your audience into another article once
he is done with the one that he is reading.
The best way to build your related links is the: "Those who read this
article ... Also read ..." this is similar to the Amazon technique of
up selling. I just passed a successful experience with one of my clients
who managed to increase their page views in a very short time.
I also see some usability problems in your pages, some of them are
really dangerous such as:
- Your site takes long time to load for 56K Modems!
- Your headlines are in blue, which doesn't bring attention to them as
your graphic coloring scheme is blue.
- Your website is not resizable; I read your news in tight columns
although I see all this non-occupied blue space in the right side.
(Resolution: 1024*768)
- Sometimes, your server doesn't respond to my queries, I wonder if your
hosting is reliable.
There are also some internal marketing tips that I'd recommend that you
go through:
1) Try to analyze the most visited articles and categories and expose
them clearly in your first page.
2) Build up a classified opt-in list where you send news to your
visitors by e-mails. This will guarantee an increasing number of loyal
customers.
3) Enhance your graphic designing, I noticed that your design doesn't
catch your eye toward a certain area.
Thanks
