Re: 59,000 hits to non-functioning web-site infuriates users

I echo Chris's comments - it is a shame. I would have recommended a
soft launch with minimal exposure to start. Companies are often too
eager to get their Web projects up and running ASAP, and plan hasty
openings with a costly media blitz. Computers and software are unstable
by nature, and still require a chance to shake bugs loose in a
real-world environment.

Loss of revenue, as Chris says, is speculative. At best you could try
to recover the advertising costs. If there was a contract, there should
be some clause on liability. Although I would imagine that it would
most likely favor the developer.

Lastly, there is no lost e-Mail - harvesting e-Mail from every user that
comes to your site is just not done. Fair prospects will most-likely
return in time with some more media exposure. Getting the issue
resolved and Web site operational ASAP is the prime directive.
Reimbursement and damages are secondary.
