Online Book Publishing

Folks,

I have a friend who just wrote a book and is looking to promote it online.
Of course, I also wrote a book and promoted it online, but that was a
slightly different case, as mine was about Internet marketing and I was
active in communities like this and others. My friend isn't especially
active online -- no web site, no active online community ties, etc.

I'm wondering if anyone has specific ideas. Specifically, is there a forum
like this one specifically for authors? How about online resources for book
authors for online promo? How about a book *about* online book promotion?

His book is about a true-life story of an Albanian Muslim man spending two
years searching for his Serbian Christian fiance after they were separated
during the Kosovo war. It's written to appeal to women readers and plays up
the Muslim/Christian love angle. The book was published by a Canadian
publisher and is available in the U.S. via Amazon.ca, so he needs to work
to get it attention here.

Obvious ideas I have are that he should set up a web site, maybe also a
blog, get active in some related communities (e.g., lost love,
Christian/Muslim harmony, etc.). Any other ideas? As a book author, I know
his budget is very limited, so he's talking about grassroots stuff for
sure. My friend Kevin Lee, a leading search marketing expert, thought that
even SEM would be unecomonical to sell a $14 book.
