Yup. This is becoming a huge problem which i-legions has just
mastered. Although I'm not a technical guy, it goes something like
this:

Any batch of addresses delivered from the same IP address is
automatically recognized as bulk e-mail/spam. Unless you can deliver
small chunks of those messages under their limit (which I THINK is
500), you're nailed.

Also, if your DNS addresses don't match up (send and receive), AOL,
Yahoo, MSN and others will nail you as a spammer, the thought being
if they don't match up, you must be trying to NOT be contacted with a
simple Reply To.

Those are just two issues.

The second can be technically adjusted by your local tech dude. The
second can be handled in mail load-balancing. But the most permanent
way of dealing with it is establishing a dialogue with AOL and
getting their specific recommendations. That's what we had to do.
