Re: What should Google do?
I am not sure I really agree with you Rob. Googles "Brand" IS as a
no-nonsence, fast, and accurate search engine (even the news, images,
catalog, groups are just specialized search engines with the same
no-nonsence look and feel). As long as they maintain that image, they
will keep a customer-base, but, like any other brand, when they discard
that image people will leave. I agree with Wael that they have not gone
after the portal market, in my mind that is a good thing, there are
enough portal sites already (yahoo, netscape, etc) that offer mail,
games, shopping, news and all that mass market stuff. These sites are
"better" then Google in some ways in that they are a one stop shop, and
they definatly have a brand name, but, people still use Google in record
numbers.
