To be more specific, I was referring to full-screen ads that appear when a
user is trying to get to a 'real' page. (I've seen this on web-mail hosts
and other sites.)

If a user is already getting his needs mets or he could get them met better
elsewhere (=without the intrusions), he is going to be displeased with those
advertisements and likely to associate both the site and the advertisers
with the bad feelings.
