Re: Value of Yahoo! Directory Listing?
Hi Charlie,
Yes people still use the directory - but - at this time Yahoo
uses Google results for anything that is not in the Directory -
so a top listing at Google usually translates into a top listing
on Yahoo without paying the $299 review fee...
( warning: that fee is charged for them just for a Yahoo edotir
to look at your site and does not in any way guarantee they will
add the site to the directory - nor does being added guarantee a
top ranking )
Word on the SEO street is that Yahoo will flip the switch soon to
Inktomi results as they recently bought out Inktomi...so then a
good listing at Inktomi will probably also get your site to show
up on Yahoo just as a Google listing does now...
In my view the only value in having a site listed in Yahoo at
this time is the fact that an inbound link from the actual Yahoo
Directory counts for a lot with Google's Page Rank system ( thus
boosting your ranking on Google ) and has a similar effect on
rankings at the other major search engines...
I have not bothered paying for this review for my site as I think
it's real traffic value is questionable right now - that could
change at some point.
Hope that answers your questions.
