Re: Hired gun to find co-branding partners

Co-branding for? What would they be trying to get commitments for?

For the most part, you will not find a decent hired gun if the dollars
aren't relatively easy to find because the "story" is not compelling.
Build a good story, the Hired Guns will come. Hired guns are easy to
find, they are generally X-biz dev managers with marketing backgrounds
who have dabbled in and out of the stock market and have a knack for
making connections with a preference for "high" priced deals to
represent. 20% of $250,000 is $50,000. They would need to have
exclusivity of the deal, so you need to find the "right person." That is
the biggest challenge. What's the timeline that you need these deals in?
If it is "right away" then expect to pay $5k a month to hire them and
give up 20% for three - four months work. ($65 k total.) Otherwise your
expectations are out of here. You will just find a lot of flakes and get
bad deals if you can't commit a little dollars for the right person. The
right people are not made they are found.

Where do you find them? What city are you in? If you have friends with
beaucoup dollars, than you will probably ask them if they know someone
like that. Chances are they will know the flakes from the real guys,
they see 100s of people a day passing deal memos across the coffee
tables and desks of this world. Start talking about what you are trying
to do and you will get it. If you where in Vancouver I could make
connections, if you're not.. The guys here are for the most part not
interested. There is a certain regional side to deal makers who only
deal in the $250k range. $20 million range, I only know a few. They're
international in scope, but don't touch companies without track records,
stability, and a few good "management/backers."

One last thing, deal makers know Lawyers...talk to lawyers and ask if
they know anyone who can do it. Lawyers are fantastic networkers. That
is one of my primary recruitment channels.

Sincerely,
