Re: Domain Name purchasing

We have experience with both abandoned domains and SnapNames.

The residual traffic from an expired domain name is only as good as its
relevance to your business. We inadvertently ended up with an abandoned
domain, which was getting about 3000 visitors per day. This seemed like
great news to our client, except that the traffic was totally irrelevant
to the client's business. Years ago we abandoned our original domain
name when our business name .com became available. A competitor is still
benefiting from having picked up that domain.

We've had good luck with SnapNames, but that is what it was, luck! I'm
not sure how it works and why registrars are able to get in before
SnapNames, but that is the deal. SnapNames makes no guarantee of
success, you are paying for them to watch out for you and grab the name
if they can. Since it is an automated tool, I suppose someone else can
make an automated tool to do the same thing, maybe better.

Better luck next time. :-(
