Chris,
There are a few ways to discover the past/current traffic. You can not get
a direct "Count" of the number of hit, but you can get a relative fix on
that by way of comparison and analysis. Your most simple "and free" tool
is: Alexa.com
Go to: http://www.alexa.com/
Download the free Alexa toolbar.
Once done, type the URL of the site in question in the search box (Not the
Google search, but the search box in your "new" tool bar). Let's take a
name that is being dropped today....
"goldstock.com"
You'll see what the site looked like and that the URL has a rank of
4,605,498 Not fantastic, but it was a real site and had traffic. For more
of a peek into its past, go lower on the page to "Site Stats for
goldstock.com"
There you will see the number of links pointing back to it and how long it
has been around... The number of links pointing at it give you a
significant idea of how important and traveled the site was. 0 links means
very low importance, 182 is fairly good, 2,500 links ... a very nice find!
Traffic Rank for goldstock.com: 4,605,498 (43,601)
Speed: Not available
Other sites that link to this site: 182 (Click on the number and it will
show you the actual 182 sites that link to the URL in question)
Online Since: 27-Oct-1995
Go to your far left and you will see the "Gowayback" link. It will take you
to:
http://web.archive.org/web/*/www.GOLDSTOCK.COM
This is an archive of all the old pages that were goldstock.com.
By the way, goldstock.com sold today, in auction, for over $1000.00
I hope that gives you a better look at what is behind a name...
Have a Very Profitable Day,
