Hello Jeremy,

My own experience suggests that you should be looking at for targeted
interstitials. That is, while the visitor is on the site doing something
- e.g. using the search box - first start tracking him/her and them,
depending of what he is doing, ask him targeted questions you may later
reconduct to an overall user profile.

A couple of years back together with an Italian IT consultancy company I
started developing a commercial service that was doing just that - we
than put on hold the project waiting for a case study to test our
analysis model.

On a test version of the software, from the back office we were able to
observe the user actions in real time and decide what stimulus to
propose him/her on the next click he/she would do. We did that by
allocating a section of the page to show stimulus "on-demand".
